- CO-17 forms in English
I've heard that we can no longer file CO-17 forms in English. Is this true?
Yes. In order to implement certain rules in the Charter of the French Language, Revenu Québec (RQ) now requires all corporations to file their CO-17 income tax returns on French forms. French versions of CO-17 forms now contain the reference "Formulaire officiel - Ministère du Revenu" (Official form - MRQ) at the top of the form.
The English versions of forms are still available for reference. However, all English forms related to corporate income tax now contain a "SPECIMEN" watermark and the following notice: "The Ministère requires corporations established in Québec to file the French version of this form." Therefore, all corporations with an establishment in Quebec, who are filing a CO-17 return, must do so using the French version of the forms.
When you print a return from ProFile, you will now see the above watermark and notices on most forms required for filing returns with RQ. You can file forms that are not part of the income tax return in English; ProFile will not print the SPECIMEN watermark on those forms.
If you work in English to prepare CO-17 returns, remember to set up ProFile to always print the filing copy in French (under Options > Form Selection) or to select French each time you print a filing copy of the CO-17 (under File > Print).
To print a set of forms in French when you are working in English, follow these steps:
- Select Options > Form Selection.
- Select the 20XX to 20XX T2 Tab (or select the tax year version from the drop-down list).
- In the Print Job section, select > CO-17.
- In the Form Selection Details section, column #3 (Québec), select F - Always Print in French.
- Click OK to save your changes.
