How to resolve the DAX Error (Access Violation)?

DAX Error (Access Violation)

DAX Error

A small percentage of our customers have been affected by a DAX Error when attempting to create a new return, or open an existing one. This error occurs when the components that are necessary to enable the module have installed incorrectly or have been improperly registered.

First, determine what type of installation of ProFile is on the machine. A Local Installation means that ProFile is installed directly on the computer. A Workstation Install means that ProFile is installed on a separate Server Machine and is being run from the computer being used.

Right-click on the ProFile shortcut and select Properties. If the Target displayed shows a local directory (C:\Program Files\ProFile\profile.exe, for example) it is a Local Installation. If it shows a a mapped drive letter (M:\profile\profile.exe, for example) it is a Workstation Install.

Note that ProFile does not support UNC installations:

The DAX Error will definitely occur if ProFile shortcut is referencing a UNC (Universal or Uniform Naming Convention) path; for example, \\ServerName\profile.exe. To correct this, create a Mapped Drive to the ProFile Installation Folder on the server.
• Click on the Start Menu, then right-click Computer
• Select "Map Network Drive..."
• Browse to the ProFile Installation Folder on the Server Machine
• Click Finish
