Permissions error when trying to use the HST Set up Tool in EasyStart

What is happening?

In QuickBooks EasyStart, you get the following message when you try to use the HST Set up Tool.

 

Why is this Happening?

The error is triggered usually in company files that are not set up correctly to report sales tax in British Columbia or Ontario. In these cases, the file won't have any vendor configured as a sales tax agency linked to either the BC Social Service Tax Return or Ontario Retail Sales Tax Return.

How do I fix it?

You need to set up a sales  tax agency vendor with the correct agency depending on the province you are in. 

To add or edit your vendors with the proper tax agency:

  1. From the Edit Menu select Add or Edit Vendor.
  2. Ensure Vendor is a Sales Tax Agency check box is checked.
  3. On the Tax Agency Info tab select the appropriate Tax Return option from the drop down menu.
