Set up HST option greyed out or not showing.

What is happening?

The Set up HST for British Columbia and/or Ontario option on the Sales Tax Code Setup Wizard is either greyed out or I can't see it at all.

Why is this happening?

  • Set up HST option is greyed out: This happens because your company file has not been configured to report sales tax for BC or Ontario (you do not have an active sales tax agency (vendor) set up to report PST in ON or BC).
  • Can't see the Set up HST option: This happens because your DPI setting is set to too large a font and so the HST option is pushed past the outer edges of the window.
How to fix the problem

Select the solution that fits the problem you are experiencing.

Set up HST option is greyed out:

  1. Open the Sales Tax Code Setup Wizard (go to Sales Tax -> Manage Sales Tax, then click the Change Tax Setup button.
  2. Select Add the Provincial Sales Tax for a different province, then click Finish.
  3. Select ON or BC, then click OK.
  4. Go back to the Sales Tax Code Setup Wizard, and you should now see the Set up HST option.

If that doesn't work try these steps:

  1. Open the Vendor Centre.
  2. On the View drop down, select All Vendors.
  3. If there is an X beside Minister of Finance, it is inactive and must be active.
  4. Click the X to make the vendor active.
