Key dates for transitioning to HST

July 1, 2010 the new HST takes effect for Ontario and BC. Here are the other key dates for the roll out of this new HST.

Date Details
June 18, 2009 Date of release fo transitional rules for housing in Ontario
October 14, 2009 Date of release of general transisional rules
October 15, 2009 Date some non-consumers may have to start self-assessing the provincial part of the HST
November 18, 2009 Date of release of transitional rule for housing in BC
May 1, 2020 Date that HST would generally apply to amts that become due or are paid withou having become due for property and services supplied on or after July 1, 2010.
Julsy 1, 2010 Date that HST would generally begin to apply
June 23, 2010 Date final PST return should be remitted
November 1, 2010 Date relevant to exchanges, returns and self-assessment
