How do I share QuickBooks updates in a multi-user environment?
It is possible to share updates between computers in your network, though certain tasks must first be completed. Before performing an update:
- Ensure that all users have access to the same directory in which updates are downloaded.
- Ensure that all computers are properly networked. Refer to your networking software documentation for instructions.
- Ensure that the computer with Internet access has a minimum connection speed of 28.8 kbps.
- Ensure that each user in your multi-user environment has a unique copy of the same QuickBooks version.
- Configure each computer to share files across the network. Refer to Microsoft® Windows® Help or documentation about sharing files.
All users must complete the following steps to enable the sharing of downloaded updates:
- Open the shared data file (usually a company file).
- In QuickBooks, go to Help and click Update QuickBooks (for QuickBooks 2007 or earlier, go to the File menu). The Update QuickBooks window opens.
- Select the Options tab.
- For the Shared Download option, click Yes and Save.
Once these steps are complete, users can update QuickBooks with the downloaded information.
