Unable to create PDF files or reconcile accounts using a 32-bit computer
NOTE: These steps and issues apply only to products prior to the QuickBooks 2012 version. QuickBooks 2012 uses a different program to generate .pdf files, so the steps below do not apply to 2012
The PDF Converter that ships with QuickBooks 2008-2011 does not work with the 32-bit version of Microsoft Vista.
To install a new PDF Converter for a 32-bit version of Vista, complete the following steps below.
If you are using a 64-bit version of Vista, click here to learn how to resolve this issue.
- Delete and reinstall the QuickBooks PDF driver
- Rename the qbprint.qbp file.
- Remove FaxTalk communicator.
Run QuickBooks as an Administrator
- Right-click the QuickBooks program icon on your desktop.
- Select Properties.
- Select the Compatibility tab.
- Click the box next to “Run this program as an administrator” to insert a checkmark.
- Click OK.
- Double-click the QuickBooks icon on your desktop.
- Enter the Administrator password if prompted.
- Download the new PDF Converter. Click here to download.
- Double-click the icon on your desktop to open the folder.
- Click Run.
- Click Allow.
- Click Browse, select Desktop, then click OK.
- Click Unzip to extract the files.
- Double-click the amyumi_install folder on your desktop
- Double-click the Install.exe (139 KB) Application file.
- If the User Account Control message appears. Click Continue.
- The Amyuni Document Converter screen appears. Click OK.
- Click the Start button.
- From the Control Panel, click Hardware and Sound.
- Click Printers.
- Right-click “Intuit Internal Printer” and select Properties, then select the Ports tab.
- Click the box next to “LPT1” to insert a checkmark.
- Click Apply and then OK.
Note: Save the folder to your desktop.
Note: Ignore the message notifying you that the program may not be installing correctly.
- Go to Start and choose Printers and Faxes.
- Right-click the QuickBooks PDF Converter and choose Properties.
- Click the Ports tab and then click the Add Port.
- Enter NUL: in the Enter a port name field, click OK, then click Close.
- Be sure that the NUL: port is selected in the Ports list; then click Apply and click the Advanced tab.
- Select Spool print documents so program finishes printing faster.
- Clear the Enable advanced printing features checkbox; choose Print directly to printer, select Apply and OK.
- Go to Start and choose Run. Enter %windir% in the Open field and OK. If you see These files are hidden, click Show the contents of this folder under System Tasks.
- Right-click the System 32 folder and choose Properties, select the Security tab.
- In the Group or user names list, select Users. In the Permissions for Users list, select both Read and Write under the Allow column. Click Apply and OK.
- Restart the computer.
If you have FaxTalk Communicator installed, it must be removed before QuickBooks can save PDF files.
To remove FaxTalk Communicator
- Go to Start and choose Control Panel
- Double click Add or Remove Programs. (Vista, double-click Programs and Features.)
- Select FaxTalk Communicator and Remove (Uninstall).
