How long does it take to update my company file to the newest version of QuickBooks?
In versions of QuickBooks such as QB 2012, QB 2010, many improvements were made in the way QuickBooks stores your data. These enhancements may increase the time it takes to update your company file. These improvements allow us to provide more robust reporting for you.
The time it takes for QuickBooks to update your company file depends on several things:
File size: A larger file (with more transactions, items, and records) takes longer to upgrade.
Multiple currencies: If you use the multicurrency feature, QuickBooks will take longer to process the file.
System requirements: A faster computer and a large amount of memory speeds up the upgrade process.
Other computer activity: Using the same computer for other activities while the upgrade is under way slows down the upgrade process. We recommend you shut down all applications other than QuickBooks and leave your computer alone after the upgrade starts.
When you convert your company file, you'll be presented with a timer that tells you the approximate time it should take to convert your file. Please don't interrupt or cancel this process.
