What you need to know before importing:

Quicken 2010 can only import data from Microsoft Money Essentials 2007 and 2008 (Canadian version). If you are using MS Money 2006 and previous, you will not be able to carry forward your MS money files and will need to start a new file in Quicken 2010.

Your Microsoft Money 2007 or 2008 must be installed on the same computer as the Quicken 2010. If you do not have a copy of Microsoft Money 2007 or 2008 you can contact Microsoft to find out your options. Canadian users should not download the US trial version, unless your files were created with the US version to start with.
The version of the data file you plan to import must match the version of Microsoft Money you have installed. Example: to import a Money 2007 file, you must have Money 2007 installed, and to import a Money 2008 file, you must have Money 2008 Installed.
If you are in the process of reconciling your accounts in Microsoft Money, we recommend that you finish reconciling before importing-Quicken will not know where you are in the process if you import mid-stream.
Money should not be running durning the importing process. Exit the program before starting.

How to import your Microsoft Money files into Quicken.

After installing Quicken, launch the program from the desktop icon. The program should automatically locate the Microsoft Money files. The last option allows for the transfer of Microsoft Money files.

If you don’t see the “I want to import my data from Microsoft Money” option, it’s because Quicken could not find either the Money software or a Money file—or both—on your computer. You’ll need to have both of those on your computer before you can import your data. If you simply want to open Quicken now and take a look at the program, select the “I am a new user” option and follow the on-screen instructions for creating a new data file.

If you do not want to upload your Money files at time of installation, you can access the import menu at anytime.

To do this:

Go to File > File Import > Microsoft Money File.
Follow the on-screen instruction to complete import.
