I cannot install or open Quicken on my Acer computer. How can I fix this?

This problem occurs because of an incompatibility between the DragAndDrop protection mechanism built in to the eDataSecurity tool (installed on most Acer laptops) and a Microsoft OS component that is used by Quicken.

You can resolve this issue by disabling the Acer shell extension program. To do this, follow the steps below.

  1. Click here to download the HKLM_BLock_DSPProtectDLL.zip file.
  2. Open the zip file and extract HKLM_BLock_DSPProtectDLL.reg to your desktop.
  3. Double-click the HKLM_BLock_DSPProtectDLL.reg file. When asked if you want to modify the registry, answer yes.
  4. Restart your computer, then try installing or opening Quicken.

Note: You can delete both the zip and reg files when you are finished.
