(TurboTax Online): Complete a spousal return

Note: If you already started a return and did not indicate that you want to prepare your spouse's return at the same time, you must start a new return.

However, you can do this using your original account. Once you've logged in to TurboTax Online, use the Return Manager to create a new return.

Note: Just because you are married or living common-law, you do not have to prepare a coupled return. You and your spouse can prepare individual returns. However, you must enter the correct marital status and your spouse's personal information when prompted.

TurboTax Online can be used to do single or coupled returns. To prepare a coupled return (or "spousal" return):

  1. Go to http://Turbotax.intuit.ca/tax-software/personal-products/online-compare.jsp.
  2. On the Welcome to TurboTax screen, click Start
  3. ***If you have an existing return, select Yes, I have used QuickTax before and enter your User ID and Password.
  4. ***If you do not have an existing return, select No, I am a new user. Then choose to set up your user account.
  5. Select EasyStep as your preparation method
  6. Choose a TurboTax product (Standard, Premier, or Home & Business.), then click the appropriate Try it free button.
  7. On the Marital Status screen, select Married or Living Common-law
  8. On the Prepare a Return For Your Spouse or Common-Law Partner, select Yes to indicate you want to prepare your returns together.
  9. Note: You cannot change your selection later. To do so, you must start a new return and re-enter all of your tax information.
  10. On the Province or Territory screen, select the appropriate location from the drop-down list, and click Continue.
  11. On the Personal Information screen, enter your and your spouse's personal information and click Continue.
