Where do I claim my school textbooks?

Credit is claimed Automatically

You do not need to enter your receipts to claim the textbook credit. Students who are eligible for the education amount can also claim a textbook credit for every month they were enrolled in a qualifying program. TurboTax will automatically add this amount to your totals when you fill out the # of months in school on your T2202/A slip.

The amounts claimed are equal to $65 per month for each full-time month attended and $20 per month for each part-time month attended in a qualifying program. They are reported at line 4 (part-time) or line 7 (full-time) of the student's Schedule 11.

The CRA introduced this credit effective July 1, 2006. Prior to 2006, you could not claim an amount for textbooks.

If you would like to answer a few questions to find out whether you can claim the textbook amount, see the CRA website.
