- Medical expenses paid for a dependant who was not my underrage child
Can I claim medical expenses that I paid for a dependant who was not my underrage child?
A dependant doesn't necessarily mean your underage child. You can also claim the portion of eligible medical expenses that you or your spouse or common-law partner paid for the following persons who depended on you for support: your or your spouse or common-law partner's parent, grandparent, brother, sister, aunt, uncle, niece, or nephew who was a resident of Canada at any time in the year.
For more information and instructions on how to claim these amounts, follow the steps below.
- Click Help.
- Select the Index tab and enter medical expenses in the keywork field.
- In the list that appears, select allowable amount for other dependants. You will find all the information you need in that topic.
Note: You can claim, as a medical expense, costs that qualify for the dependant relative's maximum deduction if they are not claimed elsewhere.
