Claim the Transit Pass credit in TurboTax

Claim the transit pass: Forms method in TurboTax Desktop
  1. From the View menu, choose Tax Info Slips (T-slips).
  2. Click the Receipts button and then click Transit pass.
  3. If you're preparing a coupled return, select whose slip you're entering.
  4. Enter the amounts that you paid for monthly (or longer duration) transit passes.
  5. Click in the next column to enter your next receipt. Enter each monthly amount in its own column, or add your receipts together to make a single entry.
  6. When you're done, click Save & Close. These amounts are transferred to line 364 of your Schedule 1.

 

Claim the transit pass credit: EasyStep interview or TurboTax Online

 

  1. Click the Personal Profile tab at the top of the screen.
  2. Click Continue on the What Happened for you in [tax year]? until you reach the 3rd screen. The Continue button is at the bottom of the page.
  3. Answer Yes to the question: Are there other deductions you want to claim?
  4. Select I bought a public transit pass.
  5. In the Deductions section, you will be able to enter your receipts for transit expenses. These amounts are then transferred to line 364 of your Schedule 1.

Note: Do not enter transit receipts here if the amounts are indicated in box 84 of one of your T4 slips.

 
Notes:
  • As of January 1, 2007, the public transit tax credit has been expanded to include shorter duration pass and cost-per-trip electronic payment cards if specific criteria is met. For more information click here.
  • You can claim passes for commuting on buses, streetcars, subways, commuter trains and local ferries. You cannot claim taxi fare.
