- Unable to carry forward 2010 tax data to 2011 account
My 2010 carry forward information is not available in the 2011 Online account?
For Online customers who are unable to carry forward (i.e. transfer data) from their 2010 account into the 2011 account, there are two options:
- Manually link the 2010 and 2011 accounts – This process involves contacting TurboTax Technical Support to ask to have your account linked. When speaking to Technical Support, ask to have your 2010 and 2011 accounts merged by the Web engineers. The tech support agent will send you an email with instructions on how to submit the required information to our Web developers.
Without the sign in information, we are unable to link accounts. Support options are available at http://support.intuit.ca/turbotax/en-ca/iq/How-do-I-contact-Intuit-Canada-regarding-TurboTax-/HOW14575.html
- Create a new 2011 return and enter the 2010 data yourself – Unless the 2010 return contained many unused amounts, business Captial Cost Allowance (CCA) claims, or you have several 2010 tax returns to carry forward to 2011, this option might be a better workaround and will get you working on your tax return(s) today. Please do the following:
- Sign in to the 2010 Online account (https://2010.turbotaxonline.ca ) using the 2010 User ID and password, not the 2011 credentials
- Next, open a separate tab or browser window, and sign in to the 2011 Online account (https://ww1.2011.turbotaxonline.ca )
- Click the Tools menu, then select Return Manager.
- Choose to start a new return.
- Switch to the 2010 account tab.
- Open the 2010 return that matches the taxpayer return you are working on in the 2011 account.
- Hover your cursor over the Review Tab. An expanded menu should open.
- Click ‘Transfer for Next Year Summary’. This will bring you to the screen showing what 2010 Tax data would be carried forward to the 2011 account.
As you can see, the majority of the information is personal information, such as names, addresses, dependants, etc. There may also be unused tax credits, Investment losses, Business expenses, and more.
- Use this information as your guide for the 2011 return. For example, if the 2010 account says there are unused RRSP contributions, be sure to check off the box in the 2011 Personal Tax profile asking if you have RRSPs, and if any of the contributions are carried forward from last year.
- Enter your 2011 tax information as needed.
